Hello! I’m so happy you’re here! My name is Rhea Khakh, and I am currently a grade 12 student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Two fun facts about me are that I love to play hockey (it’s my favourite sport) and I also love to bake.

What is my passion?
My passion is working with kids! I love helping them learn, grow, and discover new things about the world. I volunteer in elementary classrooms, helping students improve their numeracy and literacy skills, and I also teach skating lessons with the City of Port Coquitlam. Additionally, I work with the Canucks Autism Network, helping create equal opportunities for children to participate in sports, music, and other activities. I love the moments when a student/participant gains confidence after learning a new skill and feels a strong sense of empowerment! Seeing the kids succeed, gain confidence, and have fun is incredibly rewarding, and it’s something I hope to continue doing for many years. Working with children has also taught me patience, creativity, and the importance of encouraging others, which are qualities I hope to bring into my future career as an elementary school teacher.
What brought you to Butterfly Effect and where do you expect it to take you?
I joined Butterfly Effect because I really enjoyed the course in grade 9, and I wanted to take it again during my final year of high school. One of the things I love about the course is the freedom it gives me to explore creativity while following my passions. I expect it to help me learn more about cancer and how it affects patients and their loved ones. I hope the knowledge and experiences I gain here will help me support people in meaningful ways and give me insight into ways I can contribute to making a difference.
If you could have any job right now, what would it be and why? If I could have any job right now, I would definetly be an elementary school teacher. Working with children is where I truly thrive, and I love helping them learn new things, build confidence, and reach their potential. I feel that teaching would allow me to combine my passion for education with my creativity and leadership skills, while also making a positive impact on the lives of kids every day. I enjoy finding new ways to make learning fun and engaging, whether it’s through hands-on activities, games, or creative projects. I also value creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and encouraged to try their best. To me, teaching isn’t just about numbers and letters, it’s about helping kids develop important life skills such as resilience, teamwork, and curiosity. Knowing that I could inspire students and help them grow into confident, capable individuals is incredibly motivating, and it’s why I hope to pursue this career in the future. My mom is a teacher, she inspires me everyday, is a huge role model to me and another reason why I want to become a teacher!

Which one of the three categories of butterfly effect are you most interested (currently) in and why? I am currently interested in Inquiry because it allows me to be creative, but still gives structure in terms of the research aspect. I am very invested in finding out ways cancer patients, and their loved ones can find healthy ways to cope and manage through the difficult process of this disease.
I look forward to working on my project, and the progress everyone else makes along the way 🙂
