Hi, my name is Bernice Lee, and I’m currently in Grade 10. I live in Coquitlam, British Columbia. This is my second year attending Dr. Charles Best Secondary, and my second year of being part of IDS Social Responsibility. One thing I’ve been hoping for lately is to get a pet…preferably a cat, but honestly, the chances of that happening is extremely low.

To start, some of my favourite subjects are Foods, English, and, sometimes, even Math. I enjoy Foods because it’s fun and rewarding, you get to make something and then enjoy eating it afterward. English is another subject I like because I find it fairly easy, and I also have a strong interest in literature and reading. Math is a little different for me. I only really enjoy it when I understand it well, which is why I only like it sometimes.

Outside of school, one important part of my daily life is having dinner with my family. Almost every night, we gather together for a family dinner. I think this is a vital part of what it means to be a family because it gives us time to connect and grow a little closer each day. Another interest/hobby of mine is sketching. Even though I’m still not the best at it yet, it’s still something I’m passionate about and am actively working on improving.

If I had to describe myself using one attribute, I would say I am task-driven. This means I am diligent and hardworking when the situation truly requires it. I like being able to focus and put in effort when it matters most.
To me, a “global community” means a large group of people and cultures all around the world who are connected. Even though we may come from different places and and have different cultures, we all share common goals and face similar challenges. Being a part of this community means we all have a shared responsibility to help, understand, and work with each other. It shows how important teamwork is across countries, giving a feeling of unity that goes far beyond just where we live.

Overall, I’m excited to learn more and dive deeper into my chosen field of the three categories, inquiry, and learn with everyone as we go.
