Blog Post 1- Action Post: Values Activity & Aligning this with Global Millennium Goals Action Post #1

My three most important values according to the values activity are family, equality, and personal growth. I agree with these results because I feel that they reflect what truly matters to me and represents who I am as a person. On the other hand, my three least important values are power, leadership, and reliability. I care a lot more about learning and improving myself, caring for my family, an treating people with equality rather than being in control of others and having power. These pillar values are necessary to have in life especially to myself because they guide me in striving to be a better person. Family means supporting and caring for the people who are closest to me particularly during vulnerable moments. Equality means treating everyone with respect and fairness regardless of who they are as person. Personal growth means constantly learning from your mistakes, getting back up, and never giving up during the process. A situation where I put my important values into actions is when volunteering at an elementary school for an action project for this class and we were teaching grade 4/5 students about First Aid. We made sure to include everyone when participating in the activities we made and also experienced personal growth through being able to communicate, speak in front of an audience, and expand my social circle. In a future situation where I receive a terrible grade in a subject I am good at, my action would be persevering and not taking it as chance for failure but as an opportunity to study harder, ask more questions and practice.

The goal that aligns with me the most is goal 4 in the United Nations 17 Sustainable goals.

.Goal 4: Quality Education

This goal focuses on providing great knowledge, promoting equality, helping individuals discover their potential to learn more about the world and develop critical thinking that will build a sense of community. Alongside, learning about issues around us, how they affect us and the changes that can be made are important pillars in life. This goal especially aligns with my important values of personal growth, equality and family because it shows that our community needs ways to expand and improve for a better future where every person is a student in this world.

My passion lies in goal 1 which focuses on eliminating poverty. This goal is very connected to my interests and beliefs because I think that the solution to most problems could simply be having no poverty. For example, no poverty means health, education, hunger, and economic challenges can be eliminated. This passion of mine has strongly increased after seeing what poverty can do to people and what opportunities can be wasted.

A specific action that I will follow is working on a project called “Nursing home care and support” alongside my teammates. This project will be able to follow goal 3, the goal for good health and well being , which is extremely important especially during the holidays when seniors need support and care from people in the community. Our steps include visiting nursing homes and leading activities or providing mini gift baskets that will help keep them entertained. Being able to reach out to seniors means giving them our attention as well as raising awareness of how much being there and supporting matters!
