How is AI effecting consumers?
Pricing for consumers
Ever since around 2022, AI has been talked about constantly. How it’s improving, how much money is being invested in it. But what does this actually mean for us?
AI data centre’s are being constructed everywhere, they require a massive amount of resources, especially computer components. GPUs, RAM, CPUs, storage, these are all parts you will find in your phone, your laptop, and basically any electronic device. The data centres demand for these components has risen the cost of hardware significantly, making buying any sort of computer more expensive. One group particularly affected by this that I am apart of is PC gamers, people who build their own gaming computers often for fun. The cost of one component has almost quadrupled in the past year or so, RAM. It’s essential for every single computer as it provides very fast storage for temporary data, like a chrome tab. This has made pc building significantly more expensive to get into and for those who wish to upgrade their computer.
32GB or DDR5 RAM that is now around 600$ CAD

You may be thinking “well I don’t build computers why should I care?” you should and here is why. To combat the component shortage electronic manufactures have increased their prices on all their products. That means next time you go to buy a new laptop, tablet, computer, or anything you will be paying more. Not just a little either, laptops have gotten anywhere from 25% to 45% more expensive. Even the most valuable tech company in the world was affected, Apple had to issue a 100$ increase on their phones recently, their iPad’s 150-300$, as well as apple tv’s and other products at certain storage and ram tiers. So next time you upgrade your phone, laptop, computer, tablet or anything technology related you will feel the increase.
