Blog post #1 Semester 2

Hi everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today, I will introduce my new inquiry question for the semester and provide some background information on the topic.

My inquiry topic for this semester is “What are the effects of urbanization on biodiversity and ecosystem health?”

Urbanization is the growth and development of cities, which brings about many changes to landscapes, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Ecosystems undergo significant transformations, leading to shifts in species composition, habitat loss, and fragmentation. These changes have far-reaching implications for the health of ecosystems and the many species that call them home. Furthermore, the expansion of urban areas often brings increased pollution and habitat loss, further increasing the challenges faced by biodiversity and ecosystem health.

This topic is interesting to me because I’m more curious to learn more about the affects of humans on the world we live in. Urbanization represents one of the most significant transformations of landscapes driven by human civilization. Additionally, public awareness and community engagement are crucial for fostering coexistence between urban development and biodiversity conservation efforts. Thank you for reading.

  1. Hello James, I really liked your blog post! I liked how instead of just focusing on the general idea of nature, you zoomed in on specific subjects such as biodiversity. I also liked how you thought about a subject that is very popular but still fairly unsolved.
One thing that I think you could do is to include a more concrete definition of urbanization that includes pollution because that is what mainly affects the animals.

    Sincerely, Frederick Han
