Blog Post #7 – The New Girl in the Mirror Story

This is the reflection part of my first project. After I finished writing my story, there have been many challenges that I have had to overcome, as well as many thoughts that went through my head throughout the process. I will address them below:

  1. What challenges did you overcome throughout this story project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?

One of the biggest challenges I had to overcome while writing my story was writer’s block. I experiences it quite often and I would spend a lot of time sitting at my desk with no ideas in mind. However, I found that the easiest way to overcome this challenge was to go for a walk and clear my mind for a bit. This way, I was not spending too much time focusing on one thing, and once I gave my mind a break, I could refocus and come up with some better ideas. I also came across the challenge of not repeating the same words over and over again. I found it difficult to use a variety a words as my vocabulary is quite limited and I had to do some research about the correct words/phrases to use at certain times.

2. How did writing and researching your story change the way you think?

My story about Charlotte changed the way I think in a variety of different ways. I am, by no means, spoiled, but I can relate to Charlotte at times because I also hate cleaning up after myself, and I sometimes rely on my parents to do that for me. However, I have come to the realization that I am graduating this year, and I need to learn to be more responsible as I am growing up and becoming an adult. For example, I am in charge of scooping my cat’s kitty litter, but I often forget about it or procrastinate doing it. This would result in the litter getting too dirty and stinky, and someone else would eventually do the job for me.

3. What impact will this story have on others locally and/or globally?

I am hoping that my story will reach people from all over the world, and they will be inspired by it, and how Charlotte eventually turned into an independent young lady. My story will hopefully impact others in good ways such as teaching young people how to be independent and responsible. After reading my short story about Charlotte and her struggles transitioning to adulthood, I hope they will learn from Charlotte’s experience and not make the same mistake as she did.
