Blog Post #2: Project Plan

Hi everyone! For the second post if this inquiry project, I will provide the next three steps for my research with a brief explanation of how that information can help address my main question: How does family dynamics affect the mental health and overall well-being of an individual within the family?

Three sub questions to help break down and divide the research process.

  1. What are family dynamics and why are they significant?
    • This sub question will allow me to gain a better understanding and form a foundation for my inquiry. It will help my introduce the prime topic ], family dynamics, and provide a further explanation of what it exactly is. When looking at an inquiry question, one might think so what? So what about it. Which leads me to want to extend this question and explain the importance of knowing what family dynamics is. Moreover about how it varies from family to family, different backgrounds, and perspectives as well.
  2. How is one’s mental health and well-being affected by familial relationships?
    • Since my inquiry question is quite a long one, I wanted to separate the two big topics of family dynamics and personal well being. With the first step introducing family dynamics, my second sub question will be about exploring it’s relationship with mental health. More specifically, the well-being of someone within the family. This will help my main question because while mental health can be impacted by a lot of factors, I want to research deeper from the perspective of familial relationships. This helps me stay on track and progress my inquiry.
  3. Is there a difference in well-being between individuals in the family that can be compared, depending on their birth order?
    • Birth order does play a role in my inquiry. In fact, it was one of my initial thoughts as i was choosing an essential question. Birth order can be described as what someone’s “position” or role is in the family. Especially between siblings, birth order can be important between oldest, middle, and youngest. With this question, I want to be able to compare and contrast the well being of individuals within a family. By doing so, it will allow me to see any results or differences in how they are impacted and why one may be more negatively affected than another. If they come from the same family, how differently are they treated and why? That is what this questions is basically asking,

3. Explain how this question will have implications to other individuals and/or my community.

This question will help people better understand the implications of family on well-being. As well as how it affects one’s mental health, personality, the way they have grown up and how they will continue to live their life. It is important to understand family dynamics because it has connections to that state of someone’s mental health. So for example, if an individual can’t comprehend why they struggle with mental health when they excel in school, enjoy their sport, and have a close group of friends, then researching it from the perspective of family may help them.
