Story Project – Blog Post #2

I am writing a story for my project this semester. I have broken it up into chunks of how I want it to be written and here is a rough outline on how I want it to look:

Exposition:

I have decided to write my story about my experience being in the musical “The Music Man” last year. The story will take place at my performing arts academy, Lindbjerg, and also at the theatre that I performed at. The main character is me, since I will be talking from a first person point of view. Before the story begins, you need to know that I love theatre, I have been doing it since Grade 10, and “The Music Man” was a show that I will always remember and it was one of the biggest shows that I have ever been in.

Point of Attack:

The problem that the characters face in the story is that the cast was all put into this show that no one knew anything about. However, we all had to embrace our roles and put a lot of character into them. Even though “The Music Man” was new to everyone in the very beginning, we had a great time in the end and put on a great show. The overall goal of the main character is to learn all the songs, lines, and choreography so that they can know all their cues and perform it with ease. None of that is easy, but everyone still manages to do so in time for opening night.

Rising Action:

Rising Action One: We had to attend auditions for the character we wanted to play at the beginning. We were required to sing a song of our choice in front of the casting directors so that they can get a clear idea of our singing ability. Then, we were called in for a dance call so that they can get a get an idea of our dancing abilities. I was nervous at first but the nerves went away as soon as I started singing and dancing.

Rising Action Two: After everyone was casted into their roles, we began having rehearsals and actually putting our show together. I loved coming together every Saturday afternoon and working on the show until we could put all the pieces together. The rehearsals consisted of learning a new song and then learning the choreography for that number. It was super fun to learn all the choreo and music for our show.

Climax:

Tech week and opening night soon approached us. We had to be at the theatre from 4:00-9:00pm every day in order to have a smooth running show. During these days, we built sets and practiced running the show with our props and costume pieces. Opening night came and for the first time, we had a live audience watching our wonderful production. It was an exciting time the audience seemed to love what we had worked so hard on in the past eight months.

Falling Action:

Closing night arrived. It was a sad time because we would never be able to perform in “The Music Man” with the same amazing cast. It was an even sadder time for those graduating because they would not be at the studio next year. However, I feel that this was a great show that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Resolution:

Thinking back on this experience a year later, I can still remember the excitement of opening night and how proud I was to put on a fantastic show after so much hard work. Even though I will move on to being in many other productions, I will always think back to one of the best musicals that I have ever been in and how much fun it was for me to embrace and become my character.
