Action Post 1

My 3 most important values are Equality, Freedom, and Compassion. My 3 least important values are Tradition, Tolerance, and Power.

I agree with the results for the most part, some values may have changed since doing the activity last semester, but overall I believe I kept the same core values at heart. Equality for me means that everybody can feel comfortable in their own skin, it means that life would go on without a single person on Earth even knowing the definition of discrimination. Freedom for me means that any person on Earth feels free to do anything they want in this world. It means that there isn’t a bigger factor like money or judgement playing into it. Compassion means a lot for me. It means being there for those who need and love you the most, it means understanding without the person needing to utter a single word, it means considering the perspective of others just as much as you would your own.

Situations where equality matters a lot is everyday conversations. I feel that not many people realize how much prejudice they hold over certain minorities like people of colour or women. For example, subject like what social media considers the “red pill media” can have way bigger effects on the future generation. These media figures promote content that if you want to be deemed successful, you have to not only work hard for it, but also follow certain social expectations and norms that go along with it. For example many figures on that side of the media believe that men are superior to women in all ways possible, which is completely untrue. In addition, certain moments show this prejudice very visibly, like when men tend to explain things and try to change the narrative away from what a woman stated before, which is known as “mansplaining”. Freedom hold a familiar situation to equality in this context; however, for compassion, I feel that things like social media have made it easier for people to speak without considering the consequences of their words. Although it’s also a great source for those who aren’t brave enough to speak, I believe it does more harm that good generally. Because of this, real life interactions are going to follow a trend of breaking apart and becoming more difficult. So, putting these values into action would be really helpful in situations mentioned above.

Research United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Which one aligns with your values most?

The UN Sustainable Development Goal that aligns with my values the most is Zero Hunger, because zero hunger doesn’t just ensure that famine won’t be a cause of death anymore, it also relates back to equality because it demonstrates that hunger isn’t a privilege, it’s guaranteed. Although it’s considered a human right, it’s very obvious that many parts of the world still don’t view it that way, and not much action is taken to ensure it stays in place.

Which one is your passion Why?

The UN Sustainable Development Goal that is my passion is Climate Action, because in my opinion, it’s the biggest issue yet the least addressed. I feel like it should be more concerning to people especially with big factors like artificial intelligence taking a big portion of the planet’s water.

Give one specific action you would like to apply to address this goal

There’s many actions that can be taken to help with climate, but something that could be possible to do locally as well can be helping out with the waste surrounding us. A personal action I’ve been doing for a while now is cutting off all sources of artificial intelligence from my life, wether that means asking Chatgpt for help regarding school subjects like math, or simply asking questions like “which backpack brands are the best”. All of those small questions contribute to a magnified consequence that people might not see now, but will be very visible in the future. For social responsibility, that could be helping pick out garbage locally, seeing as the weather will be getting warmer, and people might dispose more as they traverse through the city.
