Blog post #2- How does sleep and what you do beforehand affect your body, and mind?

Project plan:

Step #1: How does sleep affect the body?

This step will go in depth of the difference (or lack of) in performance after a good nights rest, compared to a poor nights rest. It will also address the proper measures to take before sleep to ensure that you wake up in the best shape possible. I will talk about physical fatigue, soreness, along with elevated risk of injury. Finally, I will also touch on how sleep can effect your physical appearance, like puffiness or dark circles.

Step #2: How dos sleep affect the mind?

This step will go in depth of the difference (or lack of) in your level of cognitive abilities after a good nights rest, compared to a poor nights rest. Subsequently, I will talk about how to get the best rest possible to ensure the least amount of brain fog/ haziness in the morning. I will touch on coherency, and how lack of sleep can lead to making poor decisions.

Step #3: Are there any consequences, or long lasting effects after a poor nights rest?

For the final step, I will talk about what follows a poor nights rest, not just in the next day, but in the following days. It will include the different consequences/ effects that you will feel, and how to recover from them. Both physical and mental consequences are detrimental to your well being, so knowing how to properly recover from them will ensure you have the most success in your day to day life.

How will it affect both yourself and your community?

Sleep affects both me and my community because it plays a major role in physical health, mental well-being, and how people interact with others. For myself, getting enough quality sleep helps my body recover, strengthens my immune system, improves focus, memory, and emotional control. Good habits before bed—such as avoiding screens, reducing stress, and maintaining a consistent bedtime—can improve sleep quality, while poor habits like staying up late, using phones, or consuming caffeine can lead to fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. This can impact school, work, and relationships.

For my community, sleep influences how people contribute to society. Well-rested individuals are often more productive, patient, and safer, which can improve workplaces, schools, and public safety. On the other hand, widespread poor sleep can increase stress, health problems, accidents, and reduced performance, affecting families and communities as a whole. Understanding how sleep and pre-sleep habits affect the body and mind can encourage healthier routines, leading to stronger individuals and a healthier, more connected community.
