How do those types of relationships affect you?

On my previous blog post, I talked about what a relationship is and the types of relationships there are. In this post, I’ll talk how how those type of relationships affect us physically and mentally.

Family.

Family relationships are like our blueprints for our identity and social interaction. It shapes the way we carry ourselves, see ourselves, and relates to others. Family members influences our social skills, emotional regulation, and self-esteem. (1) With secure family bonds, people are able form secure attachments, which are crucial for feeling safe and cared for. Studies show that kids who experience secure attachments within their family tend to develop better emotional health and resilience. (2)

Friendships.

Friends are a main source of emotional support. For most people, friendships make life more enjoyable and provide emotional support that enhances our well-being. (3) Friendships are also a source of connection. Connections are essential for mental health and social fulfillment, which help prevent loneliness and social isolation. These bonds contribute significantly to our overall happiness and resilience when facing life’s challenges.

Romantic.

Romantic relationships significantly influence our mental health, happiness, intimacy, and general life satisfaction by providing support, connection, and personal growth opportunities. (4) With a romantic relationship, you’ll also notice a reduction in negative emotions such as anger and sadness. These relationships create a unique space for vulnerability and builds trust, allowing partners to grow together and navigate life’s challenges with mutual understanding and care with each other. (5)
