Blog Post #7 Reflection Post Trash Pick-Up Project

Hi, this is my last blog post, hope you enjoy!

1. Address the following questions:

a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this action project? How did you go about
overcoming these challenges?

Throughout this action project, I faced different challenges while organizing and completing my community cleanup. One challenge was figuring out how to divide the work when my friends and I got to the park. At first, we weren’t sure how to organize ourselves, but I resolved this by splitting into pairs and having each group clean a different area. Another challenge was that I forgot some materials, like posters and tape, when we arrived at Blue Mountain Park. I dealt with this by planning to go back another day to finish the awareness part of my project. I also had trouble taking enough pictures for my blog, so I decided to return with a few friends to complete the activity and gather more evidence.

b. How did this action change the way you think?

This action has definetely changed the way I think. Initially, I never though cleaning parks could make a difference in my communiy since many people will still throw garbage around parks. But, after I have started to do this activity for frequently, I noticed there is a change in how people act. For example, I was a cleanup activity last week, and a person started asking us about ways how to help in the activty and in our community. These types of activities raise awareness not only in older people but also in younger.

c. How did this investigation/action impact your future decisions?

This investigation has defitnely hcanged my view of my environment. I have start to notice there are many parks and community centres in Coquitlam and Vancouver which need to be taking care of. I will start to do more volunteer during the summer to keep contributing to my community like cleaning up parks, helping in community centres, and organizing fundraisings.

d. What impact will this investigation/action have on others locally and/or globally?

Since I did this activity with my friends, many have decided to do other pickup garbage activities during the summer to keep spreading the idea of maintain a clean environment for future generations. Globally, this action won’t really have much impact. But, if more activites like this happen, maybe the planet could me more greener and safer for everyone.

Thank you for reading my final post for this year! I am really glad I took this class and hope many people will do the same! Have a great summer 😀
