All About Me – Lina

Hi! My name is Lina and I’m 15!

I live in Port Moody and go to Charles Best Secondary. My favourite subject is English, but I also like the other humanities such as socials. My mom is from Romania, my dad is from Iran, and I was born in Vancouver.

I live with my parents, my two cats (Elizabeth and O’Malley) and my dog (Peach). This is my second year participating in the butterfly effect program and I’m excited to start the year!

My passion is and has always been reading. Since I learned to read at 5 it has been my favourite pass time. I love escaping into a different world with a book and it has helped me find a passion writing as well. I also love stories in other forms of media such as music, and preforming arts.

I joined Butterfly to gain experience working independent projects. I hope it will lead me to be able to do more complex research projects in the future learning from the inquiry object. Or it will help me express myself creatively with the story project. Since I have done those two projects, I can say with certainty that I have improved in those aspects. I’m yet to do an action project but I hope to be involved in my community and learn how to plan an outreach project.

The word community to me means a close-knit group of people like a family. A community has something in common such as values, interests or location. There are communities all around us. I personally have found community in sports, friendships, and neighbours. I know of others who have found communities online and in person. The important thing about a community is you treat each other equally and with respect and you are able to connect.

Global community means to me a bond made between people around the world based on shared values and interests. Being part of a global community demonstrates one can form connections with people despite location and cultural differences. It shows you can become close with a group of people soley based on things you value, and it can improve your world knowledge, and bring focus to your priorities.

In my free time I like to figure skate. I have been skating since I was young and being on the ice feels more natural than the ground. It helps me to get exercise in a way I enjoy, and I always feel better after a practice. It also helps me persevere and shows me how to keep working towards my goals and ambitions. Despite the fact it is an individual sport I’ve made many friends skating and I enjoy how easy it is to connect with others.

To relax, I colour, listen to music and podcasts and read. I like to pass the time doing hobbies where I don’t need to think and that help me unwind after a hard day. I find activities like this healing and helpful to manage stress.

Currently I am most interested in the action project. It is the only one of the three I haven’t done and I’m curious to see how it is! I also wanted to get involved in my community and get the experience of volunteering.

Thank you for reading my first blog post!!
