All About Me – Presley Godin

My name is Presley Godin, and I am 14 years old in grade 10. I live in Port Moody, BC and attend Dr. Charles Best Secondary School in the French Immersion program. My favorite subject of all my courses is English. I enjoy writing and sharing my opinions on philosophy and to analyze different pieces of writing.

One of my family’s traditions is traveling. We are not super indulged into cultural events, but traveling to places like Mexico and areas in BC are our hobbies. I enjoy taking small trips to places like Squamish and Whistler as well as Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. I have been travelling since i was two years old. Seeing different places with my mom helps me develop skills when travelling, experiencing new places, and learning to talk to new people. My travels have helped shape me into the person that I am.

One of my passions is going to the gym. I really enjoy training my body to its fullest potential and realizing that it can do much more than what you simply put your mind too. The gym is also important for my mental health. Having a goal to reach daily gives you more chances to push yourself and achieve things you didn’t know you could. My strongest attribute is my independency. I am an only child and have been taught to do many things alone. My independence is what lets me learn new things and to understand that I can do many things by myself. Also, my independence teaches me traits that I will need in the future when I am an adult.

The word community to me means working together. Helping one another out and further developing opportunities around us. Working with others can open many doors for everyone. A community gives us a chance to experience new things and to push everyone towards greatness. Community is an important factor in how we are as a school, city, province and country. We need community to create change for the better for future generations.

If I could have any occupation right now, I would want to be a Criminal Lawyer. I really enjoy defending people and sharing my voice. I would like to help people who have been wronged. I enjoy learning the facts of law and how the system works, so becoming a lawyer, especially in the criminal sector, would help me deepen my understanding of the system. I would also enjoy working with others and collaborating. Being a criminal lawyer would push me to learn new things about the government and the fundamentals of how the system we rely on works.

To relax, I enjoy spending my time at home. After long days at school, I find lots of peace in being alone or with friends in the comfort of my house. For me to truly relax, I need to have things done at home. I can start homework or watch TV if my room is dirty or there is vacuuming that needs to be done. I prefer to work in a clean space and for me to really relax, I need to have my pre-work tasks complete.

The perfect best friend to me looks like someone who is there no matter what. You can be friends with many people, but the ones who see you sad, happy or stressed and continue to stick around are the real ones. They’re honest and aren’t afraid to share the truth with you even if it means hurting you because they know it’s better to keep things out in the open. A best friend is a person with whom not every day is great, but you understand each other and that we all have days where we’re not perfect. A best friend is a person who truly understands you, not just a version of you.

My current choice is Inquiry.

I am interested in this subject because I like to provoke deep thoughts and reflect. I enjoy writing and diving deep into questions. Questions about how the world works and moral questions like this bring a spark of interest in me. I’m still working on my specific question that I would like to answer but am interested in the organization of inquiry. This subject fits within my goals because I enjoy reflecting and developing ideas to further my understanding of questions and overall topics.
