All about me – Elizabeth Vdovina

Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and I’m a Grade 10 student in French Immersion here at Charles Best Secondary. I live in Coquitlam, BC, and one of my favourite subjects in school is Marketing and Promotion because, I’m really interested in pursuing this career later on.

One important part of my life is my family and culture. My family has roots in Russia, Ukraine, and Italy, so I grew up with different traditions and foods. One tradition that is interesting and fun in my family is that we celebrate Easter on a different date because of the Eastern European background. At Easter we bake many goods and colour eggs in different colours then, bring them to the church at night.

Something I’m passionate about is dance. I have been involved in rhythmic gymnastics and dance for many years, and I really enjoy it. I love how challenging me physically but also letting me be free and interactive with all my friends. I enjoy learning new skills and improving, and my favourite genre of dance is Acro and Jazz!

One of my strongest traits is that I’m determined. When I care about something, I don’t like give up easily and I become very committed. For example when I start a new assignment or work on something new like a skill in dance, I almost try to never give up and keep working. I also think I’m a good communicator because I enjoy talking to people, presenting, and working with others.

To me, community means a group of people who support and look out for each other. It doesn’t have to be a huge group. For example it can be your school, neighbourhood, team, family, or even a small group of friends. For example, for me, I have a great dance community where I feel very l loved and supported.

If I could solve one problem in my community, I would want to help people feel less alone and more included. I think sometimes people can be surrounded by others but still feel like nobody understands them or they don’t feel real presence with others. Even small acts of kindness or simply including someone can make a bigger difference than people realize and I really want to work on doing that.

The category I’m currently most interested in is Inquiry. I chose inquiry because I did it last year, and I found it really interesting and different from a lot of the other things I do in school. I like being able to explore a topic that I am genuinely curious about instead of just learning something because it was given as an assignment
