Blog post #2- Why do people sometimes become more interested in something when they are told they cannot have it?

To make sure my question is answered thoroughly with as much explanation as needed, I made up 3 research parts that I will do:

Step 1: Research the psychology behind wanting something that is forbidden.

For my first research round, I will explore the psychology behind this behaviour, including examples of psychological reactance and curiosity. I want to try to understand why forbidden things can become more interesting or desirable. For example, liking a candy you might be allergic to. This will help me understand the main psychological reasons behind my inquiry question..

Step 2: Explore why is forbidden things can become more interesting or desirable than something that you can have any day

For my second research round, I will research why people sometimes become more curious about things they are not allowed to have by using real life scenarios that many people might relate to. For example, I will look at why children might want something more after being told no, or why people may become more interested in something when it is off-limits. This will help me understand how curiosity and the feeling of being restricted can affect our wants and decisions.

Step 3: explore why and how people react differently to restrictions.

For my third research round, I will explore more on the reactions and whether everyone experiences this behaviour in the same way. I will research how factors such as personality, age, and the situation might influence people’s reactions. This will help me understand why some people want something more when they are told they cannot have it, while others may not be affected in the same way.

Me and the community:

This question could affect me because understanding human behaviour can help me become more aware of my own thoughts, feelings, and decisions. For example, if I notice that I suddenly want something more after being told I cannot have it, I could think about why I feel that way instead of immediately acting on it. This could help me better understand myself and the reasons behind my choices.

This question could also have implications for my community because people experience restrictions in everyday life, like for example at school, at home, and in friendships. Understanding this question could help me understand these reactions better. It could also help people communicate with each other better and understand why someone might react negatively to being restricted. In conclusion, researching this question could help me and others better understand human behaviour and why people do not always react in the ways we might expect.

Thank you for reading!
