In this action project, my peers and I will be working on a project that will help the senior citizens in our community feel more cared for especially during the holidays. This project will require my peers and I to attend nursing homes to provide activities for them to feel entertained. Some ideas we have in mind include having karaoke of Christmas music, holiday themed bingo, and colouring activities. It will help create a sense of community and care for the people in our city who may not have someone looking after them or checking in on them. Being able to do this means we get to put ourselves out there, provide services and share the joy with others. Our steps include emailing a nursing home and brainstorming what activities we will be doing. Then we will be gathering the supplies needed and planning on a date where we will all be able to attend.
In the video, “everything is complicated” refers to the struggles and challenges one faces in life. In our action project, some obstacles we may face include not being able to attend since they may not allow guests outside of family members and safety risks like being in contact with older citizens who may be more vulnerable. We can overcome this challenge by instead sending them cards or making a video that they can watch instead. This will not only allow us to contribute but also make a difference even if we can’t show up. In life, humans face many setbacks, everything can get complicated but it is important to get back up and keep going.

This project is a sustainable action because it has the potential to grow beyond a single event. It can expand to multiple organizations and non- profitable charities such as exploring different locations and services. This can also stretch to multiple other activities that become a consistent habit such as monthly visits or activities. After completing our project, we can come up with solutions that can help create a lasting impact long term. This can include collaborating with franchisees or companies to provide entertainments that are more than just ones we make from scratch.
This project provides the opportunity for growth, change, and interactive communication. By focusing on the individuals in our community who need the most support, it will hep us be involved in creating a better now for the people who may not feel enough care or joy. Although our change may seem small, it is still impactful and helpful. We will ensure that we are making the positive impact that we intend by staying consistent, taking the initiative to reach out and still leave room for improvement. We will listen to people who may guide us through our journey. This opportunity will also help us connect with our community, be involved, and show what we can do as students who able to provide for those who don’t have.
An expert that may help us and be part of our action project is our school care taker Heather. She is knowledgeable of the services and entertainments we can provide and has many recourses that can help us on our journey. We can run through her our idea and steps and listen to what she has to offer so that we can make any changes needed or add anything we may have missed that will enhance our project.
