Blog post #3 – Action project

My peers and I are working together to collect garbage from local parks in hope of retreating and making an impact in our environment. So far, we have planned out the possible parks available and nearby, and have listed some experts we can contact. However, we are still working on finding a time where we are all available. We hope to have a set date by the end of this week.

From our previous action project, there has been many challenges we have had to overcome. For example, contacting the schools by email was time consuming since most teachers had busy schedules, as well as finding a time during our school day to accomplish our action project. From this experience we learned to adjust our action project to fit our abilities. So far, we have had a lot of success planning out and discussing as a group when and where we will be completing our action project. Going over our plan and buying our supplies was quite a success as it was quick, and now, we are all prepared. It was also easy to find local parks especially ones that were close to our homes. For example, after doing some research and visiting some parks, we have come to the conclusion that parks like Lafarge lake, Mundy park and Burnaby marine park have some of the most garbage. In all honesty, so far in this project we have not yet faced any challenges. However, we are prepared for any obstacles coming our way. We understand that by facing challenges we can learn to succussed better in our project by learning from our experiences and mistakes. If a similar problem arrives like for example not being able to accordingly schedule a time where everyone is present, we will be able to adjust quickly and bounce back. This is because we have faced a challenge like this before and acted upon it quickly. However, it will be much easier to overcome this challenge since we live in an area where parks surround us in every corner. That way we can still be present at different times or different locations.

Our next step is to ask organizations with better knowledge and that have done this previously for advice, and to ask some questions, like do we need some sort of permission? Or what is the best approach? We believe having an inside view of our project could be advantageous and helpful.

These references are helpful for our project as they have written tips on the approach of what we are doing as well as suggest making sure to separate the garbage when picking it up and not just throwing it away, although this may seem obvious, it’s a great reminder.

Trash Pick-Up Solutions: Addressing Common Challenges and Concerns

These resources will also help us learn and understand more about the process, challenges, and successes they may have faced. Learning from them will help us gain knowledge and further understand the system. Hopefully, we can reach out and email too in our next steps in finding more about what they do and who they are.
