Hi my name is Angelina, I am a grade 9 student attending École Dr Charles Best Secondary School in the french immersion program. I have 3 older brothers, one is turning 20 in december currently going to Vancouver Community College majoring in culinary, one is 18 in his first year of university at Western University in London, Ontario majoring in psychology, lastly I have a 16 year old brother attending Pinetree Secondary School as a grade 11. My favourite subject so far is social studies which really surprised me this year as I always hated socials and didn’t understand anything.

I was born in Surrey, British Colombia but my parents were born and raised in South Korea. My culture is a really important part of me and my families lives such as, Korean traditions, dishes, festivals and so much more. I think in the Korean culture the most important value i’ve been told growing up is respect for elders whether it’s bowing to them, waiting for them to eat first or just polite gestures. I think growing up learning about this really shaped me to who i am today in a way because I think i really try my best to be respectful to all those around me. Although my family members are now often busy from school, work, etc. We occasionally try to have family dinners on special occasions, family trips, camping trips because it is still one of our family traditions.

My strongest traits, I think is that I am observant and kind. Being observant sometimes might be a negative thing as it sometimes leads me into overthinking but i think a great part of being observant is that I notice when people around me aren’t feeling their best or they have a lot to think about I try my best to make them feel better or I will be there to listen to them. Kind may be a basic adjective to describe myself but i watched a video about being kind versus being nice, the video explains that being nice is telling someone what they want to hear while being kind is telling someone when they need to hear. That sentence is so simple yet it has so much meaning to it for me personally, after listening to this video I realized that kindness is a synonym of honesty and honesty is always the best policy.

If could you have any job right now what would it be and why?
If i could have any job right now I would want to be a psychologist, as I said previously I am a very observant person whether it’s how people feel, act or thinks. A psychologist is someone who studies emotions, the human mind, behaviour and can diagnose mental health conditions through psychotherapy. I am also interested in being a school counselor or therapist as sometimes people would call me the “therapist” friend. Before I was interested in psychology and counselling, my dream job for a very long time was to be a Interior Designer, one of my few hobbies is art and I’ve continuously loved the idea of designing and decorating my room. When I was younger I would constantly get bored of the layout of my room and would change it myself when I wanted to, unfortunately AI has now taken over and wouldn’t be ideal for a future job.
What does the perfect “best friend” look like to you?
The perfect “best friend” to me is someone who is honest, understanding, trustworthy, dependable and easygoing. Even though I am the biggest overthinker I think a real friend is someone who is honest with you, it is always better to hear the truth than to find out on your own without hearing the other story and assuming what the situation was right off the bat.
Sometimes when I cancel on people I often feel guilty I think someone who is understanding is also someone who is considerate because maybe they will consider how I feel, and understand my scenario.
Being trustworthy is someone who is like my own diary, someone who I can talk to comfortably knowing my thoughts won’t become gossip. Spending time with someone who is easygoing is always such a good feeling, not needing to put in so much effort, not needing to change who I am, not needing to have big plans to have fun, that is what easygoing means to me. A person who is dependable is someone who I know will always be there for me through the highs and lows, they won’t switch up on me, and will always stand up for me.
Finally, the “perfect” best friend to me is someone I can talk about similar interests with while also learning new hobbies and passions by talking to someone who has opposite interests. I think a big thing I am trying to improve on is also my relationship with God, someone who is willing to help me me learn more about Jesus together is a pretty great example of my “perfect” best friend. Of course, no one is perfect but these are some of the most important values I have in friendships and relationships.

Who is one of your heroes and why?
I have three important heroes in my life, Jesus and my parents. My mom is my role model because she is always doing her most to take care of me and my 3 other brothers. Although she lived through a childhood where she had to exceed expectations, she never expected me to do what i don’t want to do. Both my parents always told me to do what I enjoy and what I love to do. My mom and Dad have given me so many opportunities to find my hobbies and passions such as piano lessons, art classes, swimming classes, etc. Even though, I’ll never be able to return half the value of the love, protection and care they gave me but I still hope one day I can give back to them to thank them for everything they have done for our family. Jesus, He is my Saviour, He died for our sins and I hope to keep learning new things about christianity everyday.

I chose the Inquiry project so that I can research more about random questions I may think of. I think this project will be very interesting to research about and learn new facts. I am really looking forward to this project and I am always hoping to try the other project sometime as well like the Action project because I would love to help out the community in any way possible.
Thank you for reading about me and hopefully you learned something or something new about me.
